Spain - 23 to 27 March in Caceres, Estremadura
EBCC conference in Caceres, a few days meeting colleagues, partners, with some extra birding, a small jump to the platform at portas de Rodao for finally glimpsing the Ruppell's Vulture, and Avadavat and bustards close to Trujillo on the drive back to Madrid.
Nice conference, cuckoos are back, swallows everywhere, Monfragüe magnific as usual. Extra species were Southern Grey Shrike, Black, Griffon and Egyptian Vultures, Black-shouldered Kite.
Bordering the road from Trujillo to Madrigalejo, sout of Zorita, a flock of 17 Great Bustards, with some displays:
Red Avadavat, maybe a hundred along ditches surrounding a water body just north-east of Madrigalejo:
And to complete the egyptian collection, another taxon of stonechat: European Stonechat Saxicola torquatus rubicola:
