Nest boxes in the Jardin des Plantes

A Great Tit visiting a recent nest box in the Jardin des Plantes

Benefiting from a wish to 'increase' biodiversity in our Jardin des Plantes, National Museum of Natural History in central Paris, we finally set up numerous nest boxes this week around the garden, within the zoo, and close to our research buildings. Though it is already late for most species, which have already establish territories while the first tits' eggs have been laid, some birds started to visit the boxes, and the survey of the great tits should provide valuable inputs on the adaptation of that species' phenology to our hot city center (Paris is always 2-3°C hotter than the surounding wider countrysiden making it a natural experimental area to tackle bird response to warm climate).
Great thanks to all who made it happen!
