EGYPTE - 1 March

Almost no sleep, wake up 2:30, flight at 4:45 for Cairo to Aswan where Mindy arranged a birding day with the local rangers of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), Aissam and Ahmed. Mary Megalli took me up at the airport for the start of a long-hauled driving trip. Arival 6:00, we met the rangers at 8:00, went to the fish farms near the airport and spotted a Three-banded Plover within a few minutes. Some people tried this site but could not enter, the best is to contact the rangers to arrange a visit.

Ready by 9:00, we caught the 11:00 convoy to Abu Simbel where we arrived after three hours. We headed directly to the large bay north of the airport, where we soon spotted 1 Pink-backed Pelican and 2 Yellow-billed Storks. An evening walk back the Ramsis hotel downtown produced a third Yellow-billed Stork and two flying-by African Pied Wagtails, before the night.
