EGYPTE - 28 February

Now you might have a key to understand the name of the blog. I am just back from a week around Egypt, meeting with Mindy and Sherif Baha el Din and Mary Megalli. During this week, I will post articles relating this birding trip, day by day. Starting with the first day (sunday 28 february) spent with Mindy Baha el Din and Abdallah at Wadi Natrum. I arrived on 27 Feb afternoon, was taken at the airport to drive to the Baha. Sherif was in the US, and Mindy had organized a drive to Wadi El Natrum for the next day. Early 28 we started from Giza, stopped at the pyramids where Mindy relocated rapidly the local wintering male Kurdish Wheatear, just by the pyramids.

A further glimpse to the Sphinx and we were on the way to Wadi Natrum. A stop at the Baha's summer cottage produced the expected garden Senegal Coucal, showing well up in a tree, while the northern lake at Natrum produced (only) 4 Kittlitz's Plovers. All the target species of the day were in, except maybe the introduced Alexandrine Parakeets looked for in Giza but with only a distant flying bird seen.

A Coucal photographed at Abassa, the second of the trip
